  • TOUGH WORD
There is an heretical approach in explaining how Christ dealt with sinners while He walked the earth. It’s quite popular actually. The common misconception is that Jesus was so very comfortable with, and even ‘hung out’ with sinners, so we in the church ought to do the same. Every false teaching is sprinkled with toppings of truth. Yes! Jesus went into sit and eat with the worst sinners of his time, making some of them his disciples even. Yes, He came to save sinners and not those who thought they were righteous. Yet, what this generation does is purport that Jesus was condoning and excusing the sin of the people, evidenced by...

Yet, what this generation does is purport that Jesus was condoning and excusing the sin of the people, evidenced by the Gospel accounts, while purposely shunning the weighty truth of Jesus’ bold statements on sin, and the consequences of living unrepentant lives.

Jesus ate and drank with sinners in order to SAVE sinners and not to give a thumbs up to their behavior. Quite the contrary. The Lord does not change nor does His word mislead.

For the man converted to Christ, there can be no comfort in the constant company of lost men nor could he call one a brother in truth. If anything, let the truth be told, the man who does not have Christ is an agent of the devil, unbeknownst to him, and is enslaved to falsehood, himself being a walking hypocrite in the sight of Holiness.

We believers can love the lost, in prayer and deed, but we will never join them.

“I do not sit with men of falsehood, nor do I consort with hypocrites. I hate the assembly of evildoers, and I will not sit with the wicked.”
    — ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭26:4-5‬‬

  • CHRIST IS THE CALLING

“For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.”

    CHRIST IS THE CALLING

“For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.”
    ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭1:26‬ ‭

The next focus for us in this letter is to follow Paul as he brings the Corinthian church, momentarily, into remembrance of the Lord’s calling on their lives. Recall, primarily, that this church was being addressed because of their disunity, as well as jealousy over spiritual gifts which divided the congregation further due to specific preferences with regards to teachers and preachers, all detrimental to the service to the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, Paul was eager to address this issue by reminding them of their essential worship, elevating the Son of God and gathering together in unified praise in the Person of Christ. Paul exhorts them to stop the pettiness, strife, disagreements; to stop elevating men and to come back to the Source of faith, the One who has called them to believe on Him who has conquered sin and death. Jesus Christ was not accepted by the Jews, nor the Greeks, and by men who desired to “fit Him” into an earthly , worldly construct. His meekness, lowliness, and unimpressive background naturally contributes to men’s distaste and disapproval. Moreover, if any Corinthian then, or believer today, cannot associate himself with this Christ, accepting the weakness and apparent folly attributed to Him, that one must consider the origin of their own calling.

The Corinthians needed to refocus on who saved them. They needed to know who exactly they are , who we are, in the eyes of the world. Being poor in spirit, meek, and merciful will never win you a popularity contest. Denying oneself is considered insanity and completely unnecessary according to this world’s standards, which thrives on excess and consumption. Furthermore, men’s economic status, wealth, social standing, and education is of utmost importance and extremely significant to one’s progress in the world. Our calling has no interest in such. Quite obviously God does not call men who have it all and can do it all to have great faith. Yet the wisdom, nobility of birth, and the power of every Christian comes from Jesus Christ, who has brought us into sonship and shares the inheritance of God with us. In case any Christian was tempted to question their faith because of the rejection would do well to recall 1 Corinthians 1:26. True Christianity is the celebration of a Person, and the surrendering of one’s life to that Person, the Lord Jesus, who the world does not know. This is God’s Way. Let us recognize that our calling is into conformity with this Magnificent Person, the One who loves us all our days. How we shall honor Our Lord all the more as the world is embarrassed by Him, and us who are closely associated with Him. Praise God!

  • JESUS CHRIST CRUCIFIED IS THE GOSPEL

“For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.”
    ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭1:17‬ ‭

    SENT TO PREACH THE CROSS
Let it be known always that the Gospel begins, ends, and will always be centered on Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who took up His own life, in leaving eternal glory, to be crucified for sinful humanity. He who has died, who has risen, and who reigns in Power, to return in the glory unimaginable, is the same one who has SENT Paul to preach the good news about Himself, as He sends us everyday to do...
JESUS CHRIST CRUCIFIED IS THE GOSPEL

“For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.”
    ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭1:17‬ ‭

    SENT TO PREACH THE CROSS
Let it be known always that the Gospel begins, ends, and will always be centered on Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who took up His own life, in leaving eternal glory, to be crucified for sinful humanity. He who has died, who has risen, and who reigns in Power, to return in the glory unimaginable, is the same one who has SENT Paul to preach the good news about Himself, as He sends us everyday to do likewise. While we may not all be called to preach, we are all called to be His people, shining a light that He put in us all, and pointers to Christ and Him crucified. Nothing else has conquered the power of sin, that is death, destroyed the works of the devil, and reconciled mankind to a Holy God. Nothing of the flesh can save a man, can heal or restore a man in any way, being that nothing good dwells in our flesh (Rom 7:18).

    NOT MAN’S GOSPEL
Faith comes from hearing and hearing the Word of God, which is entirely different than the word of man in effect, purity, and enabling power to save souls. It is God who CHOOSES the man to deliver His Word unto salvation, being impossible for such to be conditional upon a man’s talent, eloquence, wisdom, or education. No one can boast in God’s sight. We who preach the gospel are entirely unremarkable in ourselves, being wholly reliant upon God’s power in Christ for us, as is promised to us by the working of His grace in our lives, which are blessed with every spiritual blessing. As the church in Corinth was comprised of different preachers and teachers, who varied stylistically, divisions arose within the body of Christ as to individual preference for these preachers, which undermined Jesus Christ’s perfect work and disrupted the unity of the Spirit. Does this not still happen today? Therefore, Paul brings the GREAT EQUALIZER back into focus in this letter, that is CHRIST CRUCIFIED, the “foolishness of God” according to the wise and the learned, yet in reality the very POWER of God that undoubtedly humbles the man who cannot do anything to add to it or subtract from it. Let us do as Paul did to remedy the ineffectual preaching today.

    ITS THE POWER OF GOD
Let us look where we have been guilty here. I myself, at times, have tried to ADD to Christ Jesus at one point or another, either my own wisdom or interpretation of the holy scripture. While not openly seeking for fame and fortune in doing such, I have operated outside the Spirit of God to my own desires and pleasures, thereby spreading the Word about Christ without effect, attempting to empty the power of the cross. The Gospel can only SPREAD when it is backed in POWER by God’s WISDOM. Thank You LORD for your correction, mercy, grace, forgiveness in providing me with place to repent. God’s power ONLY flows through Jesus Christ, and Him crucified, risen, alive and glorified. Now through His stripes we are HEALED, we are MADE NEW, we are RESTORED, we are DELIVERED, from anything and everything, one time and every day, filled with the Holy Spirit to live for God, By FAITH, with HOPE, and in LOVE. We need not look elsewhere even though the world looks everywhere else. Nonetheless, may we tell the world this good news, to the glory of God in Christ Jesus. Amen.

The cross of Christ gives the Christian purpose, wisdom, and power. All this is received from God to work His salvation.
